Combining data structuring and operational expertise in the custom-made industry

A century-old company based in the Loire region, Mecaroanne designs and manufactures custom industrial grinding solutions for a wide range of sectors, including the food industry, the chemical industry, recycling, and heavy industry.

Originally focused on precision engineering and industrial subcontracting, the company has gradually evolved its business model to concentrate on comprehensive solutions that integrate design, testing, manufacturing, and commissioning, enabling it to get involved very early in projects, working closely with its clients to address their specific process challenges. Its strength lies in its ability to handle specific—and often unique—requests that require strong technical expertise and a high degree of adaptability, within a bespoke engineering approach where understanding the client’s needs takes precedence over standardization.

In an industrial model based on custom-made solutions and small production runs, Mecaroanne has undertaken an initiative to structure its processes to improve transparency and operational control. The implementation of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is part of this effort to better manage operations, with key objectives including tracking time spent on each project, ensuring traceability of operations, and centralizing production information. Unlike repetitive production environments, every project at Mecaroanne has its own unique characteristics: the challenge, therefore, is to structure the data without making the organization too rigid, in order to maintain the flexibility required by its industrial model.

The project thus aims to better connect the design office, the workshop, and support functions by creating a shared and reliable data foundation (the goal being not merely to digitize, but to empower teams to better manage their day-to-day operations). This initiative marks an important step in the company’s transformation, laying the groundwork for a more structured organization while respecting its identity: that of an agile manufacturer capable of designing unique solutions for specific needs.
