From 7-Day Production Monitoring to a Full-Scale MES Project

Operating across the entire value chain—from roasting to training, innovation, and media—Maxicoffee draws on more than 55 years of experience and a strong product culture to serve a wide variety of customers, particularly in the gas station, airport, and healthcare sectors. The group is currently continuing its industrial transformation by focusing on the digitization of its production facilities and performance management.

Faced with the significant challenge of managing performance and production data, Maxicoffee initiated in 2022, at a recently built plant,a phased approach to implementing an MES, starting with the Astn’go solution on the packaging lines before considering an expansion to Aquiweb. In an environment already structured around several business tools (SCADA for automated control, WMS for warehousing) but still heavily reliant on spreadsheets for certain key steps, the goal was to ensure the reliability of real-time data, improve performance management, and structure production and traceability processes.

During this presentation, Valentin Lamothe will discuss the initial challenges of the deployment, the decisions made regarding the first MES building blocks, and current uses on the shop floor and at the management level. He will also share the observed benefits (significant improvement in OEE, better management of unforeseen events, and increased maturity of teams in performance management) and demonstrate how this targeted first phase paves the way for the transition to a more comprehensive MES, which will eventually address broader issues such as traceability, integration with the information system, and regulatory compliance.
